Construction Projects Start April 3

Friday, March 31, 2023

The Glencoe Park District has updates on several major projects taking place in the district this spring, including the Retaining Wall and Ramp Repairs at Glencoe Beach, Lakefront Park Tennis and Playground renovation, and Watts Center renovation.

The Retaining Wall and Ramp Stabilization project has entered its first phase. Over the past week, the project team has completed minimally invasive work, including surveying, locating, and brush/debris removal. Starting Monday, April 3, the Park Avenue ramp will be closed periodically as crews begin work on the West retaining wall. The park district expects this phase to last through the end of May. The most significant ramp closures will take place between mid-April and mid-May. Visitors will be able to access Glencoe Beach throughout the project using the Hazel Avenue ramp and the stairs. Next week, the Village of Glencoe will also begin work on a Storm Water Project near the Boating Beach. For more information on this project, visit www.villlageofglencoe.org/current_projects.

The Watts renovation project, which involves activating inaccessible program space and addressing accessibility issues, will begin shortly after the construction fence is put up on Monday, April 3. The project is expected to last eight months, with the building closed during construction. A groundbreaking for this project will be held on Tuesday, April 11 at 6:30 PM.

Finally, the Lakefront Park tennis and playground renovation project is expected to begin in roughly two weeks. The park district will share a more definitive timeline once it is available.

The dates provided are tentative and weather-dependent, and the park district will continue to provide updates as necessary.
