Wednesday, October 25, 2023

The Glencoe Park District is delighted to announce the renaming of the beloved Watts Center in recognition of the exceptional contributions made by Sheila A. and Jack A. Weinberg. Following their generous donation and over twenty-five years of devoted service to the Glencoe Park District, the Board of Commissioners unanimously approved renaming the building the "Weinberg Family Recreation Center" at their October 17 meeting.

This distinguished honor underscores the deep appreciation the Glencoe Park District holds for the Weinberg family and their unwavering commitment to the community over the years. Jack Weinberg's exceptional leadership on the Board of Commissioners, where he held numerous influential roles, demonstrates his steadfast dedication to the development of Glencoe's facilities. His tireless efforts have played a pivotal role in the ongoing success of the district.

"Throughout his tenure, Jack Weinberg led crucial community capital and referendum campaigns that have been instrumental in supporting renovations to both the Takiff Center and Watts Center, improving the quality of life for residents and enhancing the recreational offerings in the Glencoe community," said Executive Director Lisa Sheppard. "His outstanding work has ensured that these facilities remain exceptional places for all to enjoy."

Additionally, it is worth noting that Jack Weinberg is not only a dedicated public servant but also an avid park user. His personal connection to the facilities he has worked tirelessly to enhance underscores his commitment to ensuring that the Glencoe Park District remains a cherished asset for generations to come.

"The Board is grateful for this donation that will support the sustainability of our recreation center," said Glencoe Park District Board President Carol Spain. "The Weinberg Family Recreation Center will continue to be a place where families gather for recreational activities, and where the community comes together to create lasting memories."

When finished, the renovation will add 2,318 square feet of multi-use, accessible indoor recreation space to the facility. Construction is expected to be substantially completed in time for the rink to open on Friday, November 24.

The Glencoe Park District cordially invites the community to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion at a special renaming ceremony, which will take place at the Weinberg Family Recreation Center on Saturday, December 9 from 11 AM to 1 PM. The Weinberg Family Recreation Center is located at 305 Randolph Road in Glencoe.
