Time To Process
Monday, July 4, 2022
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones or were injured at today's Fourth of July parade in Highland Park. To allow our community and staff time to process this tragic event, all Glencoe Park District facilities will be closed, and all programs cancelled for tomorrow, Tuesday, July 5.
We have many connections with family, friends, staff, and colleagues who reside in Highland Park. It is so hard for adults to process events such as this and perhaps even harder to process alongside our children. In order to support you, we are sharing recommendations from the National Association of School Psychologists on how to best talk to your child about violent acts. We recommend talking to your family about today's events before returning to programming on Wednesday, July 6.
Additionally, we will have crisis counselors from Family Services of Glencoe at the Takiff Center tomorrow. The counselors will be offering resources to families and staff. Whether you need a private session with your child, want resources on how to talk to your little one, or need someone to talk with alone, they will be here for our community. Counselors will be onsite 9-11 AM for all.
To meet with a counselor, please use the Takiff Center main entrance. All other doors will be locked.
Updates will be provided as they are available on our website and social media.
