New Pier Coming Soon
Thursday, March 31, 2022
We're pleased to announce that the Glencoe Park District Board of Commissioners has approved repairs to the pier at Glencoe Beach. The project goal is to repair the existing pier with a new stamped concrete overlay.
Weather depending, construction will begin the first week of April and will be completed by May 31, 2022 (Memorial Day). During construction, the pier will be closed, but Glencoe Beach will be accessible.
The project includes clearing debris from the existing pier, repairing infrastructure, installing a new stamped concrete boardwalk, adding new LED light fixtures, and new paint on the railings/light poles. Repairs to the pier are budgeted for $439,500. The construction will be funded by an insurance claim from PDRMA ($69,100). All other construction/repair costs of this amenity are funded by a slight tax increase. A non-referendum bond was issued by the Board of Commissioners of the Glencoe Park District in the amount of $4.5 million in September of 2020. The bond was issued when interest rates were near an all-time historical low of 3.35%. This is the first debt issuance done by the Park District since 2006.
Construction will begin the first week of April and will be completed by Memorial Day (May 31, 2022). Dates may vary and are weather dependent. Construction is allowed during the regular Village of Glencoe Construction Hours:
- 7 AM-6 PM, Monday-Friday
- 9 AM-6 PM, Saturdays
- Work is not permitted on Sundays or holidays
