The Goats are Back!
Tuesday, September 22, 2026
The Glencoe Park District is pleased to announce that targeted goat grazing will take place at Milton Park this week as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainable land management practices.
The Benefits of Managed Grazing
Goat grazing offers an environmentally responsible alternative to chemical-based vegetation control. This natural approach provides numerous benefits for our parks and community:
- Eliminates the need for herbicides and pesticides, protecting local waterways, soil health, and wildlife habitats
- Reduces carbon emissions compared to gas-powered machinery
- Minimizes soil compaction and erosion, preserving the integrity of natural landscapes
- Provides natural fertilization as part of the grazing process
- Effectively manages invasive plant species and overgrown brush
- Offers a cost-effective, sustainable solution for ongoing vegetation management
Goat Guards Volunteer Monitoring Program
To ensure the safety and security of the grazing herd, dedicated "Goat Guard" volunteers will be patrolling the area during evening hours throughout the week.
Show Your Goat Love
Residents interested in showing their support can purchase goat-themed merchandise, including t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, and additional items, in our Park Store.
Visit the Goats
Community members are welcome to visit Milton Park, Monday through Thursday, to observe the goats in action. To ensure the safety and well-being of the grazing herd, we kindly ask that visitors:
- Leave dogs at home: Goats are easily frightened by dogs. Please avoid bringing pets to the park during the grazing period.
- Do not touch or feed the goats: While they may be tempting to pet, please allow the goats to graze undisturbed.
- Stay behind the fence: Keep hands and personal belongings outside of the designated grazing area at all times.
Goat Goodbye
To celebrate the goats' contribution, we're hosting a goodbye party Friday, September 25 at 2 PM! Whether you've watched their munching endeavors or simply want to give them a farewell pat, everyone is welcome to swing by and say goodbye to our eco-warriors.
