The Glencoe Park District would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Carol Spain for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and vision during her time as Board President and Commissioner. As Carol and her family prepare to move abroad, we want to celebrate her remarkable contributions and honor the legacy she leaves behind. Since joining the Glencoe Park District Board in 2021, Carol has been a driving force in shaping Glencoe's parks, recreation facilities, and programs.
Under Carol's leadership, the Park District completed several transformative projects, including the renovation of Duke Park, Connect Glencoe, Lakefront Park, Milton Park, and the Weinberg Recreation Center. Her strategic guidance led to the successful passage of the District's 2024 bond referendum, paving the way for a new maintenance center, updates to Glencoe Beach, and park improvements. As Board President, the Park District was named a finalist for the prestigious National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management (2025) and earned the Illinois Distinguished Accredited Agency Award (2025).
Carol and her family have been active participants in Park District programs and special events, bringing warmth, energy, and a strong sense of community connection. As they embark on an exciting new chapter overseas, their presence will be missed by the Glencoe community.
The Park District Board will be accepting applications to fill the vacancy left by her departure. If you are interested in helping shape the future of Glencoe parks and recreation, please contact Lisa Sheppard.
On behalf of the Glencoe Park District, we thank Carol Spain for her years of exceptional service and wish her and her family every happiness in their next adventure.
