Milton Park Design Concept Approved

Thursday, April 17, 2025

At their April 15 meeting, the Glencoe Park District Board of Commissioners approved the final design concept for Milton Park's upcoming renovation. This milestone follows months of community feedback, input meetings, and public polling to ensure the park's redesign aligns with the community's vision.

Community input meetings were held on February 4 and April 4, where residents were invited to share their ideas and priorities for the park revamp. Initial design concepts were presented at the April 4 meeting and posted online for public voting. Overwhelmingly, 78% of respondents preferred the Nature-Inspired Woodland play structure for the new playground design.

The redesign will expand the playground by 65 square feet--a 2% increase--while prioritizing minimizing tree removals, a necessary measure to meet current safety standards. To further promote sustainability and preserve the natural beauty of the area, renovation plans include planting new trees both at Milton Park and nearby locations.

In addition to the new playground structure, the Board approved an Engineered Wood Fiber surface. This biodegradable material is cost-effective and enhances the park's eco-friendliness, supporting the district's sustainability goals.

The Board also gave conditional approval for the installation of a custom Goat Climber as an alternate feature, pending a donation. The Goat Climber design would measure 5 feet in length and 4 feet in height, adding a playful and unique element to the park. Residents interested in supporting this addition can learn more about donation opportunities here.

The next phase of the project is to prepare bid documents and solicit bids from contractors, with construction scheduled to begin in late summer.
