With help from the State of Illinois Boat Access Area Development (BAAD) and Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) grants, the Village of Glencoe and the Glencoe Park District will embark on a comprehensive improvement project to repair the ramp and improve bluff stabilization measures.

Glencoe Beach Closed for Renovation
The Glencoe Park District is renovating Glencoe Beach, funded by the 2024 referendum and shaped by input from over 800 residents. Construction started Tuesday, September 8, 2026, with a planned reopening in May 2027.
The project includes:
- New boardwalk, sun shelters, and trellis
- Accessible playground with water spray features
- Improved boat storage
- Renovated beach house interior with new bathrooms, changing areas, family restroom, and a multipurpose community room (the beach house's historic exterior will remain unchanged)
Swimming Beach
September 8, 2026-May 2027: The beach, lower access road, and stairs will be closed throughout construction. The beach house, playground, and sand areas will not be accessible during construction. The upper road (above the Halfway House) will be open to walkers and runners after 4 PM on weekdays and on weekends.
Boating Beach
September 8, 2026-May 2027: The Boating Beach will be open on a modified schedule through the end of the season on October 11. Once the boating season ends on October 11, winter storage will be available. Sailboats will be stored at South Beach, and paddleboards and kayaks will be stored in the Boat House. Boaters will not be able to access vessels during winter storage.
Please use caution due to increased construction traffic and follow all posted signage and fencing.

Schuman Overlook Repairs
The Glencoe Park District Board of Commissioners approved the commencement of repairs to the Schuman Overlook (the Park Avenue overlook at Lakefront Park).
Construction is expected to continue from September through May, affecting both South and North Beach at different times. Construction activities will follow the Village of Glencoe’s permitted working hours: Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM.
You will not be able to access North Beach Monday through Friday during construction hours. The ramp will be closed to the public. North Beach will be accessible Fridays, 3:30-7 PM, and Saturdays/Sundays, 12-5 PM, until October 11.
The map below outlines access routes for boaters during the lakefront construction project.
Red Route: Indicates the designated pedestrian access route for boaters traveling to and from the North Beach. Boaters should use this route when accessing their stored vessels and the launching area during construction.
Yellow Route: Indicates the access ramps that will be open outside of active construction hours. These ramps will provide the primary connection between Lakefront Park and the beach when construction activities are not taking place.
Please follow all posted signage, fencing, and staff directions. Access routes may be adjusted as construction progresses to maintain the safety of both visitors and construction personnel. Updates will be communicated to all boaters as changes occur.
Vessel can be removed at any time outside of construction hours by walking it up the ramp. If you need a vehicle to remove your vessel, you need a removal appointment. Vessel removal appointments are available Fridays (3:30-7 PM), Saturdays (12-5 PM), and Sundays (12-5 PM). South Beach removal appointments are September 11-13; North Beach removal appointments are available September 11-October 11.
All boats, sails, paddles, dollies, life jackets, and personal belongings must be removed by the applicable deadlines. Items left behind will be removed by Park District staff. Glencoe Park District is not responsible for any personal belongings or equipment left behind.
