Public to view from Lakefront Park
At their September 17 regular meeting, the Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 to continue fireworks on July 4 at Lakefront Park.
Prior to the meeting, a community survey was shared via email and social media with residents. 546 people responded to the survey. For survey results and comments, please click here.
On September 14, 2019, 356 Glencoe kids completed The Great Mud Run. The 2K course included 12 obstacles, including two new challenges, at Watts Park. For complete results, click here.
July 3 at Glencoe Beach or July 4 at Lakefront Park?
The Glencoe Park District Board of Commissioners is seeking community feedback about changing the Independence Day fireworks to July 3. If approved, Independence Day fireworks would be shot from a barge on July 3 and viewing would once again be on the sand at Glencoe Beach. This would also mean Glencoe Beach would be open on July 3 and 4. If you would like a voice in the decision, please complete the
survey by September 12.
Bike path grants will support development and land acquisition for bike trails in seven counties
Governor JB Pritzker today announced $2.6 million in grants for 16 local projects that will help communities acquire, develop and improve bike path facilities throughout Illinois. Funds for the Bicycle Path Grant Program, administered by Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), are for the acquisition of land or development of facilities for bicycle paths. The Bicycle Path Grant Program was approved by the Illinois General Assembly in 1989 and funding comes from a percentage of motor vehicle title fees. The program provides a maximum grant award of $200,000 per application for development projects, with no maximum grant award for acquisition projects. Glencoe Park District was awarded $200,000 for Connect Glencoe, a .53-mile trail that will connect five separate parks to the larger 9-mile Green Bay Trail that links four villages.
Online registration for fall programs starts at 7 am on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. Non-resident registration starts Monday, August 5 at 9 am.
New Water Safety and Recreation Pilot Program
After the deadliest year on the Great Lakes, the Glencoe Park District launched Beach S.A.F.E. (Sailing & Aquatics for Everyone) on July 15 to introduce water safety in a fun and informative way.
“Seventeen people have drowned in Lake Michigan this year and 775 Great Lakes drownings have occurred since 2010. As a public beach, it is our responsibility to provide the Chicagoland community with resources to reduce risks on Lake Michigan,” said Matt Walker, Glencoe Beach Facility Manager.
